The Art & Music Project
“Paradise at Pete” was a concert event in Athens Georgia on April 30th, 2024. The Art & Music Project coordinated with the band A.D. Blanco (the concert promoters) to cover this event: their last Peter Street house show. The event was a massive hit, and featuring popular local bands Hallpass and Hotel Fiction and even stunning performances from the University of Georgia Juggling Club.
I found this documentary especially challenging to find the story, primarily because this was the largest volume of footage I had worked with at the time. What it ended up becoming in my minds eye is perhaps less of a story and more of a snapshot of a moment in time. A memory. How to capture the essence of the air that night?
The different camera shots were diverse and explorative: multiple traveling cams, two cameras rigged up in trees, and a group effort to coordinate simultaneous coverage of the sets.
My biggest shortcoming on this production was being inadequately prepared to get a better sound recording off of a Behringer 32x mixer. I attempted plugging into Logic, searching for software requirements when that failed, and even plugging multiple drives directly into the USB to no avail. The backup audio came from a Zoom H6 X/Y rig at the back of the event near one of the stationary cameras
