The Art & Music Project

Julia Barfield is probably the sweetest singer-songwriter in Athens, Georgia. At the heart of the town’s alternative country scene, she’s made waves since the spring of 2025 releasing her debut EP “Keep to Me” and playing with a full band. The AMP enjoyed having her for a cozy solo performance in the historic Athens “Tree Room.” Along with the chirping of birds above and some light rain, she shared with us a breathtaking display of the warm, authentic, and vulnerable qualities that define her songwriting.

Julia is an absolute joy to work with — endlessly whimsical and the rare kind of person that carries a contagious warmness wherever they go. With that said, I was honored to have taken the lead in editing together this episode and finding the story of a young songwriter.

My responsibilities, aside from the many hours in the editing room, include engineering and mixing The Tree Room performance on a two input interface into Logic Pro. I also filmed / interviewed Julia and her band in Little Kings Shuffle Club on an old digital camera and my Zoom H6.

Artists like Julia remind me of why I continue on with this documentary project. It’s always such a delicate and formative privilege to capture and exhibit an artists work as authentically as possible. One will get to know the artist extremely well! Absorbing the footage and reading the interview’s transcriptions over and over allowed me to understand how incredible and inspiring Julia is! This is the same with other episodes and artists in their own specific ways too. I get to absorb slices of what makes these artists so beautiful all the time!
